Map of Tulum, Mexico
Here is a map of Tulum to reference when planning your trip. When making a travel plan, I always like to get a lay of the land while figuring out where I want to stay,
so I can maximize my time once I get to my destination.
Located on the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, Tulum is part of the Riviera Maya and nestled about 40 miles south Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo. Usually Tulum is referenced by either Tulum Playa or Tulum Pueblo, shown outlined in red.
Tulum Playa is where all the beach hotels and beach clubs are for the full Caribbean coast experience and Tulum Pueblo is the town where you’ll find shops and a more city-like feel.
Both areas provide great places to stay, this guide will provide all the details you need to find a place you’ll enjoy the full Tulum experience!
Where to Stay Tulum
Budget Beach Hotels
Cala Luna is a budget-friendly beachfront hotel located on the North part of Tulum Beach. The location is prime for anyone that wants to explore the town and cenotes because it’s conveniently located right by the main road into Tulum town.
The rooms are more spacious than the average size of Tulum! And it’s an adult-only resort which makes for a quiet & relaxing experience.
Cala Luna have both ocean view and jungle view rooms. The jungle view rooms cost around $70-90 a night, the ocean view rooms go for about $130-150 a night.

Luxury Beach Hotels
Libelula was my favorite hotel in Tulum. It’s a small, boutique property located South of Tulum Beach.
The location is away from the tourist scene in Tulum beach, it’s very private. So if you’re looking for peace and quiet, stay here! With that privacy comes a longer drive to get there, but it’s absolutely worth it!
The beach is pristine. The rooms are to die for. The hosts make you feel like family. And the food is perfection!
