Our Magical Family Vacation to Dominican Republic
& Travel Guide to Casa de Campo
I’ve found your next family vacation. Trust me.
I’ve been to Casa de Campo twice in the last year. And I very rarely love places enough to visit them a second time. After visiting with a girl friend in 2021, I absolutely had to bring my entire family back in 2022.
This travel guide will help you plan your entire family vacation Dominican Republic from start to finish.

Most Asked Questions on Travel to Dominican Republic
Should I take my kids to Dominican Republic?
Yes, absolutely! This blog post will help you plan your DR family vacation from start to finish.
What are the best family resorts in Dominican Republic?
We had an amazing experience with our family of 4 at Casa de Campo and I can’t recommend it enough. They have options for every size family and every budget. This post will cover all those options, including airports, lodging, all-inclusive packages, etc.
About Casa de Campo
- Private, gated community of 7,000+ acres (11 square miles)
- Award-winning luxury destination by travelers & celebrities
- Personal golf cart access with each room and villa
- All-inclusive stays are available
- Top golf course resort in the world
- World-class activities & outstanding restaurants
Location & Airports
Casa de Campo Resort & Villas is located in La Romana on the Southeast coast of Dominican Republic.
To travel there by air, you have three airport options:
- La Romana International Airport (5 minute drive to the front desk)
- Santo Domingo International Airport (50 min drive to the front desk)
- Punta Cana International Airport (50 min drive to the front desk)
For both of my trips, I flew into the airport in Punta Cana. I found this airport to have the best flight prices & times for our family from our local airport (Orlando, FL)
Once you book your flights, your Casa de Campo concierge/vacation planner will assist you in arranging transportation for your family from the airport straight to the front desk to check in (car seats for kids are available.) Once you’re all checked in at the front desk, you’ll be escorted to your room or villa. They make it super easy!
You can also book a helicopter, a private jet… whatever you need!

When to Visit
Another amazing detail about visiting Casa de Campo Resort is that it never feels crowded, even when it is. It’s a resort, yes, but it’s the size of a city. Is spread out and there’s so much to do, which allows for a much more laid back and relaxed experience. Unlike your usual inclusive resorts where everyone’s jam-packed by the pool. This is way better.
“High season” for Dominican Republic is December – April. “Low season” runs from June to November.
For my two visits, I came in early January and in late February. Temperatures were warm, comfortable and mostly dry – in the low 80s both times. We experienced blue skies and very minimal rain!
Accommodation Options
One of the best parts about visiting Casa de Campo are the accommodation options. Guests have the freedom to choose between hotel rooms, suites or private villas. There are options for every budget.
All accommodations include a personal golf cart for guests to use to get around the resort. And you also have option to book either a standard stay, or an all-inclusive package (to include select restaurants and activities.)
I’ve stayed in both a Hotel Room and a Private Villa. More info below.
Secluded Villas
It doesn’t get any better than your own private, luxury villa. Our family of 4 stayed in Villa Gray for four nights and it was absolutely spectacular.
Each villa at Casa de Campo has its own staff and private pool. Breakfast is prepared for you daily right in your kitchen. You also have private maid service and a dedicated concierge.
There are dozens of villas on the property and each one has it’s own unique charm! Browse them all and book using the Villa Finder

Hotel Rooms
I shared a hotel room with my friend for 3 nights and it had absolutely everything we needed. It’s located right in the main resort area and your golf cart gets you everywhere you want to go.
It was fully updated and had a beautiful view of the golf course from the private terrace. The room is very spacious – it has a sitting area, wet bar, walk-in closet, walk-in shower and a gigantic luxurious bath tub. You can book a king bed or two double beds.
Casa de Campo will have 58 brand new rooms in 2022!
Elite Suites
I personally haven’t stayed in the Elite Suites – you can view the information on the website.
They feature more living space, two bedrooms, two terraces, and a dining table for six.
World-Class Dining
The dining at Casa de Campo is simply outstanding. They take you on a culinary journey around the world – no two meals are the same. Here is everything you need to know about dining at Casa de Campo.
Random fact… the coffee here is some of the best I’ve ever had. Ever. (Where are my coffee-obsessed travelers at? Come say hi!)
Signature Restaurants
Throughout my two stays in Dominican Republic, I’ve had the pleasure at dining at the majority of the Signature Restaurants at Casa de Campo. Tap through the carousel below to read my personal reviews of each one!
Reservations
Upon checking in, I made my dinner reservations for all the nights of our stay. That way it was all set ahead of time!
Reservations are recommended at all of the restaurants, especially on the weekends during peak dinner hours. Your concierge / vacation planner will assist you in making your reservations, and you can easily get ahold of them by using the phone in your room.
24/7 Room Service
I definitely took advantage of the room service while visiting Casa de Campo! Sometimes you just don’t feel like leaving your room, and it’s nice to have the convenience of their delicious food delivered straight to your room.
Room service is available 24/7 – Breakfast from 6am-11am and Lunch/Dinner from 11am-6am. You can also order drinks and dessert. I highly recommend the filet mignon, it’s magnificent.
All-Inclusive Dining
If you’ve booked an All-Inclusive stay, here are the dining options that are included with that package. It includes both food and drink (premium brand liquors are excluded):
- La Caña
- Causa
- La Piazetta
- Chilango Taqueria
- La Casita
- Lago Restaurant
- The 19th Hole
- Massa Food Truck
- Brasa Food Truck
- Room Service (delivery charge not included)
Kid-Friendly Activities & Experiences
There are a ton of family-friendly activities available around Casa de Campo! Check out my top recommendations and some photos to inspire your trip.

Beaches
A vacation to Casa de Campo isn’t complete without visiting Minitas Beach. The flat, shallow sea is absolutely perfect for the kids to play in! The atmosphere is relaxing and calm; it’s the definition of paradise.
My favorite way to enjoy Minitas Beach is to grab a chaise lounge chair by the ocean, relax under the umbrella, and enjoy the food and drink service. The piña coladas are exceptionally fresh and delicious!
A variety of water sports are also available at Minitas Beach. And there are kid activities at the Palapa on selected dates.
Altos de Chavón
Altos de Chavón is a one-of-a-kind 16th century replica Mediterranean village. Cobblestone streets, mountainside views… it’s so much fun to explore and take in every detail. Here are just a few ideas of what you can there:
- Explore the historic amphitheater, church and museum
- Book a photoshoot with a professional photographer (or take your own photos!) – every corner is a picture-perfect backdrop
- Ride a cute little donkey – my daughter LOVED this!
- Dine at Chilango Taqueria, La Piazetta, Dye Fore Bar, and more.
- Browse the shops and boutiques for unique, homemade treasures and souvenirs
- Take a pottery and weaving lesson at the workshops

Swimming Pools
There are several pools available at the resort.
The Main Area Pool is located outside the Main Lobby/Reception Building. There are two pools here side-by-side. One features a cool swim-up bar! And there is a shallow section that’s absolutely perfect for the kids to play. Chaise lounge chairs and private cabanas are available, along with bar and restaurant service.
Minitas Family Pool is located at Minitas Beach. There is a lifeguard on duty. Pool butler services is also available – you can get food from the food trucks, ice cream shop and juice bar.
Petting Zoo
This was one of our favorite activities with the kids! Definitely don’t skip a visit to the Petting Zoo at the Equestrian Center. We got to pet all the animals, then Evelyn got to ride a cute little pony around the Equestrian facility while we learned about all the beautiful horses and how they’re cared for. We all absolutely loved spending a few hours here.
Sports, Excursions & More
Kid-Friendly Excursions
You can book a ride to Catalina Island on a catamaran and visit the pristine, private beaches. (I wish I had made time for this, I’ll definitely be doing it next time!)
You can go horseback riding! Or take a Horseback Tour around Hacienda Higueral.
You can book a Cave Exploration Tour to Las Maravillas Cave.
More info on excursions can be found here
Sports
You can book night golf, tennis, water sports, soccer school (seasonal) and visit the shooting center.
Movie Theater
Take the family to watch a movie at the cinema!
Adult-Only Experiences
During your vacation, I recommend scheduling some adult-only time. And Casa de Campo make this very easy to do! Here’s what we did.
- Hire a nanny/babysitter through the resort (more on this in the next section)
- Parent swap (one parent watches the kids while the other enjoys a few hours of alone time)
Award-Winning Golf Courses
While I took the kids to the beach, my husband spent his dedicated alone-time to playing a round of golf. Teeth of the Dog (shown here) is the #1 golf course in the Caribbean and #27 in the entire world.
Queue Ryan’s blog post debut:
Teeth of the Dog may be the course on every golf-lover’s bucket list, but Casa de Campo actually has 3 award-winning golf courses! It’s truly a world premiere golf resort, so ladies, get your husband’s excited because they’re going to love this. They can play on all three courses, book private lessons with pro golfers, play in tournaments, and more. And just like with everything else, you can book your tee times and reservations with your concierge/vacation planner.
Spa, Health & Wellness
I was going to use my kid-free alone time to get a massage at the spa, but I actually just ended up laying on the beach at sunrise for a few hours of peaceful bliss. I just love listening to the ocean, smelling the salty sea, and feeling the cool morning breeze. I’m a simple soul, what can I say? These are some photos from my sunrise I took with my tripod.
Next time I visit Casa de Campo, I’ll get myself pampered at the spa. Or I’ll do a fitness class. Or I’ll get a personal trainer. Or I’ll just end up on the beach again enjoying the sunrise. Who knows!

Minitas Beach Club
Make sure to spend some time at the adults-only area of Minitas Beach Club. It’s an upscale, romantic atmosphere with a spectacular infinity pool overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Waiters will tend to your every need while you relax beneath the palm trees and take a dip in the picture-perfect swimming pool.
Romantic Date Night

Look no further, I’ve got the perfect date night planned for you.
Hire a babysitter for the kids (read next section for more info) and enjoy this date night itinerary at Altos de Chavon.
First, make dinner reservations at La Piazzetta. Make sure to reserve a table outside, the atmosphere and views are incredibly romantic. And I recommend booking your table for JUST before sunset so you can watch the sun lower over the mountainside. It’s dreamy.
After dinner, walk around Altos de Chavon and explore the night life! If you’re visiting in December/January, the entire village will be lit up with Christmas lights and it’s totally magical.

Then grab a drink at Onno’s. We loved the atmosphere here! It was a Tuesday night and there was a DJ playing music. Also make sure to check out Genesis Night Club and dance the night away! It’s open Thursdays-Sundays so unfortunately we didn’t get to go, but it’s on my list for next time!
You can get to Altos de Chavon on your golf cart in anywhere between 10-20 minutes (depending on where you’re staying) or you can call the concierge/vacation planner to book one of their drivers to take you and pick you up. We did the latter so that we could have a few drinks at/after dinner.
Nanny & Babysitting Services
Hands down my favorite part about Casa de Campo are their qualified, experienced nannies! Our nanny was outstanding and really felt like part of the family!
There are top options: day nanny and night nanny. We took advantage of both!
We arranged a nighttime nanny/babysitter one evening so Ryan and I could enjoy a date night. She came to the villa, hung out with the kids and put them to bed. She was in touch with us via WhatsApp the entire time, and it was perfect!
We also booked a daytime nanny for two full days on our trip. She simply came alongside us throughout the day and helped out with the kids. (Mainly with baby Elliot with his diaper changes, feedings, etc.) She joined us to Minitas Beach, Altos de Chavon, the pettting zoo, and more. She was absolutely brilliant! And we genuinely enjoyed her company and knowledge of the resort.
The nannies at Casa de Campo are professionally trained in first aid, CPR, and childcare. We also requested the same nanny for everything instead of rotating through different people each time. So we got to know her, and she really got to know the kids too, and she truly felt like part of the family. I can’t recommend this service enough – take advantage of it!
